Ric,

from inside I think they all look the same as seen in the pic.May be you never noticed. It isnt that noticeable when seen from outside.May be ur car is 2003

regards
jay
There are 2 different designs of headrest in the E60. The higher central rest is from the standard version and the lower one is the enhanced headrest/armrest combination like on my car.

You can tell the difference also by the cupholders built into the armrest. Standard versions are uncovered and the enhanced package has covered cupholders where the cover flips up to reveal them. You can see this compartment cover in the view through the rear window in Ricracing's picture.

Was the enhanced version an option?

Well I got my UK spec. together with the advanced A/C system. It was part of the package. In the UK the advanced A/C is a cost option which is a must IMHO, unlike in the US where this is standard. That was one area that I thought BMW really went penny pinching mad in the standard A/C. For a car of this level to have cheap heater dials worthy only of some down-market 80's economy car and no side to side heater distribution controls is criminal.

Maybe BMW have now seen the light and let us poor UK folk have what the US customers have had as standard all along ie. advanced A/C and the better rear arm/headrest set up? Maybe it also comes with the split fold rear seat option, I don't know as I didn't get that?

nope - my sig shows the full options i added - not a lot! I dont even have leather, so the upholstery fittings are not premium package in any way.

Again, this could be a country specific thing - like USA gets enhanced A/C, we dont - we get PDC as std, you dont.....

Looking at it logically, UK has small parking spaces and crap summers, USA can have hot summers (70f is an average UK summer temp with nice days at 85f) and sensible sized parking spaces...

I cant see anything wrong with std climate control - but it is winter . I didnt see anything lacking in my crappy renault very basic manual aircon either - over 2 summers...

cheers

I allways have mine down and the two outside headrests all the way up.
But even if the ousides are down and the middle is up it doesn't look that ugly.
