First of all, why is it that you folks think it's okay to accuse someone of being someone else without any verification or proof that this is even the case?

FYI, recently, you guys have been wrong way more than you've been right about this sort of thing. To make an assumption about another member's identity and then go on to insult them, become hostile towards them, or otherwise attack their credibility -- without any proof whatsoever -- is simply unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

If you suspect that a member might be someone else (such as a previously banned member, etc.) please let the mods/admins know and we will determine the truth and take action, if necessary. There is no guarantee that you will receive a public or private reply about the issue so just because you didn't hear anything from anyone does not mean the situation is not getting any attention. Depending on many factors, the resolution of these types of issues may take more time than many people are accustomed to so again, just report the situation and let us do what needs to be done.

One other very important thing to remember is that this is a global community and many of our members do not have the same command of the English language as others do. Often times they are doing their best to communicate in a language that they're not comfortable with so before beating them up and/or assuming they have bad intentions, show them some respect and give them a chance. When a post looks suspicious, give the person the benefit of the doubt and get clarification by probing further but with respect. If they truly are a troll or have some alternative agenda, it'll be evident eventually and they will be dealt with.

Another thing to understand is that the term "5er" is commonly used outside the USA to describe a 5 series so just because a member chose to include that term in their member name does not automatically associate them with another member who chose it as well.

We're all here to share a common interest -- the BMW 5 series car. We need to respect and welcome anyone who wishes to participate in the forums, regardless of whether they are able to post a picture of a car or whether they even own a car! It amazes me to see people judging whether or not a member is "legit" based on some artificial (as well as ridiculous) criteria. This behavior needs to (and must) stop immediately.

Everyone clear on this?
Thank you, that was the point i was trying to make.

Cheers,
Leon

Thanks Rudy for taking the time and thought to center us on this issue. I've been waiting a long time for the Mods to speak out on this. I am ONE who was accused of being a "BANNED" member; of posting an article about the reduction of illegal immigrants for the sole pupose of pitting one member against the other; of making posts that were "TOO PROVOCATIVE"; of being a RACIST because I was critical of the Obama Healthcare Plan; etc.

When I challenged the accuser to give any proof that I was a previously banned member - you deleted my challenge.

I see so many of our "smart leading members" so quick to attack and to accuse. I have not and don't intend to post a PIC of my car. It is not part of the TOS or any other requirement, to prove my worth -as has been alleged by the mouthpieces here. This aggressiveness is, I believe, the reason many of us post less that we'd like or take long absences from this site.

That is not good for the growth of the site.

Thank you again for your thoughtful and courageous post.

To be quite honest, I am a relatively recent member considering the lifetime of this forum. I have also seen the difference in atmosphere and a lowered post count of the members that I used to really enjoy. I do believe that as time goes by things change but that does not mean the change has to be accepted or tolerated.

I don't know, I guess the current climate has been allowed to a certain extent. We (as adults) probably should have PM'd tons of the posts that were recklessly and/or irresponsibly posted for the world to see. But, honestly, we should have also PM'd warnings or suggestions to the poster as well. I don't know if the forum will ever go back to what it was but, I hope it does.

I think Iceman and Rudy do a great job. But, in the end, we are the majority. The members. There should be a standard that we uphold to protect the integrity of the forum.
The once E60.net made room for everyone in the family (minus the 3ers amd 1ers lol) and even changed its handle to accommodate. I think we could all learn from that.

I have tons of fun here, and although my posts are 100% helpful and life changing at all times, I feel like I let it go by as well.

Someone once told me that if you walk by a mistake, you have just set the new standard. It is true...

All in all, you guys (this includes the gals) are pretty cool and fun (for lack of a better term) to be around.

Well said Mr. Repostaroni...

I agree that many of our veterans are being chased away by a small handful of relative newcomers because the high standards we held ourselves to in the past have been lowered, for whatever reason. To me, it's truly a shame to witness.

This forum has always received praise for the way the members were able to work out differences with little to no intervention from mods and admins. I believe that one of the reasons people always said this was the best forum was because there was rarely a need for the admins or mods to intervene, close discussions, ban members, etc. That was all possible because of the caliber of person posting here, not because of anything we did! When misunderstandings occurred, people wouldn't just "pile on" and crush another member, they came to his/her aid and helped everyone involved iron things out. I always believed that this was due to the high level of maturity of our members. I still believe that we can get back to a similar level of maturity if we all stop to realize what Tony is saying -- it's up to the members, not the mods or admins to fix this!

Each and every member, when posting publicly or privately, needs to show respect to one another like we did in the old days. If you don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say it. Granted, I understand that many members have become close friends through meets, etc. and very often sarcasm and light-hearted kidding will take place (I'm guilty of this myself ) but that doesn't mean that each and every member deserves to be greeted here with a wise-crack or insult. I've seen new members bashed unnecessarily and when they ask why they were treated with such little respect, they get bashed some more!

A small bit of advice I can add for many members here is quite simple -- before firing off a hasty reply to someone that may not be constructive, take a few extra seconds, re-read what you typed, and ask yourself if you're actually contributing something to the discussion or if you're crossing the line over to a post that may not reflect the best interest of our fellow members. As Iceman said above, a high post count does not make anyone any more valuable here than a person with a low post count. We'd all be better off if we stopped focusing so much on how many posts people have, etc.

I welcome additional input from you folks, the membership, since that's really why we're all here. Thanks for listening!

I will be more cautious about calling out new members, as I was quick to jump on this one. I will just not post or welcome them if I get the feeling it is fishy. I will keep it to myself. When I see potentially harmful behavior i will simply report it rather then get involved.

That said, if we are going to enforce some standards around here,we need to stop the sexually oriented photo posting. some chick posing in a provocative picture with barely any clothes on doesnt belong here. At home I dont care, but I got nailed last week because a female co worker walked by when i had oppened the thread with a moving .gif of boobs against a window while cleaning a car. she is pretty cool, but kind of made a big deal. I had to convince it was a car site that is approved for work, and some idiot posted something they shouldnt have. Save the "you shouldn't be looking at this site at work" crap, because the user agreement that everyone agrees to would lead me to believe that I can open this site at work.

Change the user agreement and I wont surf at work. Don't change the user agreement, I will report all posts i stumble across that is not appropriate. I consider myself to be a reasonable and intelligent human being, I cant understand the need to share these photos. If i want to see boobs, I will search it myself, not hope to stumble across it embedded in a thread about rims.

+1 on everything here. From now on, if I see a new member who I believe is a spammer/fraudster or a thinly veiled racist or person whose solely purpose I believe is to pit members against each other -- a disturbing trend that I have perceived occurring here much more frequently in the last month (that is what I meant by my prior reference to "recently"), I will simply report it to the mods rather than calling them out publicly.

And by the way, if I thought for a second that some of my favorite members who no longer post as often as they used to (Calton, Gene and Frank come immediately to mind) do so because I happen to post a lot, I would cease or severely limit my involvement in this board. Those folks have added more to this board than I ever willl. I have had nothing but good relations with each of them and I have no doubt that they would say the same about me.
