next to the iDrive controller: If you have 2 buttons (one should say "Menu" the other would have a picture of a mouth with lines coming out of it) then you have voice command. If I am correct the button on the steering wheel is for the phone.

I have only 1 "menu" button behind the idrive knob. The phone button is above my voice control button on the steering wheel. Thanks for the responses but I'm no closer to knowing the answer to my question

If you press it and hold it in for 1-3 seconds you should hear a beep and then you can say for example " phone " if the car responds with the same commando you just gave it you have voice control. Otherwise it is just a blind button. Like in my car.
Command for example:
Car: Beeps
You: Phone
Car: Phone
You: Dial number
Car: Dial number, number please
You: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 Dial
Car: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 Dialing
Or you can do all that in one command.
But it is actually a lot faster to just dial through the bluetooth on your own phone than playing with the voice command.

Or you can get your dealer to retrofit it like I said earlier. If your button does nothing you still probably have all the components to get it activated by your dealer if you want the voice command

That is always a possibility. My car had BlueTooth from the start, however, for some reason they deactivated it during the CPO process. I asked my SA at the dealer when I was getting some regular maint done and they activated it with no problem.
