I like a green light for when things are working.

Even if not on Auto it gets switched off before the battery will be dead. [/quote]
Has anyone ever actually tested this? When I first bought the car, a valet had turned the parking lights on. I parked the car thinking they would just turn off automatically. 10 hours later, I came out to the car and they were still on! However, the car DID start without a problem.....I was freaking out thinking I would need a jump my first day of owning this thing!

i know exactly what you meant and i've seen so many other cars have blue lights.
Blue is nice, but it's too bright to look at. Red is the best colour for driving at night.
I wouldn't mind having the blue light, but I also really like the red...

most cars (including the galant) has a little knob thingy that adjusts the brightness, but i agree, it is bright. But I like that color a lot, but I don't think it would suit an E60.

Good thing its not green

Right after I got my E60, I parked it my garage and did some work in the kitchen, which is close to the garage. When I went back into the garage several hours later, my trunk was open. I was afraid that the battery had run down, but it hadn't. The trunk light was off. It must turn off after a few minutes to save the battery. Very clever!

I had the key in my pocket, and I guess I must have pressed against the kitchen counter in just the right way to open the trunk without realizing it. I've also set off the car alarm in the same manner. Now I take the key out of my pocket if I'm working in the kitchen.

The reason the lights are red is becaus there have been extensive studies to show what color lights help retain night vision the best. This was mostly for pilots of aircraft, thats why all cockpit lights are in red, however the same applies for driving a vehicle at night. Also the ambiance lighting would be rather harsh in any other color since they are always on when the lights are on.
