Don't have the car anymore but I swear my '08 550 had the door handle lights, called courtesy lights in the manual. Was part of the Ambient Light package, standard on the 550 and part of the Premium Pkg on other models as I recall. Did not have them on my '04 545 and it only may have started with LCI production which was model year 2008 here in the US.

haha...fair enough. I've had this handle on all forums that I go on for so many years now that I forget about the pun. And to answer your question...must be because I'm now engaged after over 5 years together and getting married soon, which means apparently soon enough it'll be past past tense along with many other things in the bedroom lol.
and from what I just found out today at a dealership was that it seems like none of the e60s have handle-lights, but the LCI have the mirror lights, whereas the pre-lci don't have any exterior lights.
I also found out that the non-nav e60 with the premium package doesn't have a compass...kind of a bummer. It seems like the e90, though more than 10K cheaper has certain luxury amenities that the e60 doesn't have.

My LCI 535i doesn't have mirror puddle lights even though I do have the premium package. It is a very early build.

I was about to say too....where were your cars built?
I'm getting the impression that the Canadian cars didn't have them. Similarly, (at least the pre-LCI) 5-series without the sport package doesn't have TPMS either since it is not mandatory in Canada. The sport package does, since it has runflats.
But either way, I actually ended up not getting the fully-loaded 530i with the M-Sport kit, as it was higher mileage (and my fiance didn't like the black on black), so I picked up a silver (the dark silver) 2007 530i with just premium package and a couple of other upgrades (no nav ) that has less than 50K kms on it. I'm waiting for them to CPO it and then I'll be picking it up next week.
Can't wait to get back into a bimmer, and I'm hoping that the 5-series will live up to my expectations over the 3-series
Thanks for everybody's helpful comments and info!
