I saw one better than that a few months ago in the UK. It was a new '56 plate M5 with a 518i badge on the back trundling down the outside lane of the motorway just waiting for some oik who didn't know his arse from his elbow to flash him to get out of the way .....
Now that is someone with a sense of humour.

I've been contemplating debadging my car for some time now, but always felt that it may take away from it?!
A debadged e60 could comes across like you're trying to hide the fact it's a 525/530 ?
I don't think anyone would debadge a M5/550/545 ! So my initial reaction to a debadged e60 would be to think it's probably a 525 or a 530....!
What do you guys think ?

I think it's stupid and it makes the car looks plain.

I de-badged my 545 a few years ago.
I know what it is. I could care less who else knew.
Granted the two 3.5" tips probably gave it away as well as the NASCAR-loud sound (thank you B&.

My M3 Evo was debadged before I bought it and I did have some fun for a few weeks as being the 4 door version, it just looked like any other ordinary 1990's 3 series
The 535d is however fully badged up and kind of has the opposite effect. You can doubley p**s other drivers off by first whooping them and then letting them know it was done in a diesel!

cant they tell its a diesel by all the black soot coming out of your pipes, as you shoot past
(only kidding!)

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
There was only ONE legitimate reason to debadge, and that was >30 years ago in Europe when state taxes were levied based on engine size. Now that everybody knows what's under the hood, just by the VIN, nobody gets away paying 4 cyl taxes on their V-12. Not to mention the size of rear brake rotors and other non-styling, genuine performance cues.
Now, if you do it, at a minimum you are snickered at; or at the worst, simply dismissed as a pretentious poseur. :'(
Ya gotta pay to play.
