Depends on whether you have a diesel?
Those take much more time to heat up.

They are not for the engine to get warm faster. They are there to help cooling down the engine!
They direct the airflow down to the oil sump to cool the engine down.
It is not on any US spec E60. BMW simply saved the money, since US spec cars are not driven as fast as cars over here. Therefore they don't get as warm as ou cars over here.

I can see you are from Sweden to. They opends when I wash my car to, but specially in summertimes, when the "flaps" are full of bugs, i turn the key in position 2, and wash them, while they are closed by the motor
Reminds me that I have to wash the car tomorrow It looks like hell these cold winter days :'(

I've got them on my car. All UK E60s I've seen have them. However from the E60s I've seen in Singapore they do not have them. So maybe its due to the "tropical" specification of the cars in Singapore.

I wish I had them.? They would cover up the large empty space you see when you look through the grill.? It looks kind of cheap to me without them.

When looking through the grille all I can see is the radiator behind the diagonal stabilizer bars (which I always thought looked a little strange - they are very visible at certain angles).
