I'm looking to buy Bilstein B4 OEM replacement struts for the front. I have both Dynamic Drive and Sport Suspension and many websites list the same part number for this strut for DD / SS combo and standard suspension. Moreover, it's the same part number for left and right...whereas the OEM part numbers for the struts are 1 number off for left and right....

First off, if you have sport package you should be looking at B8s, not B4s.
You'll get the best deal ordering them as a complete set. I just put a set of B8s on my car a couple of months ago.

Not necessarily. B8's is a sports series strut, while B4 is direct OEM replacement, also available for sport suspension. From the Bilstein site, "B8...for the performance-minded driver...suited for use with special lowering springs...."
while "B4....original ride quality". This is not a sports car for me....B4's are half the cost of B8's, so I'm going with B4's.

I use the b6 with stock springs on my 535xi and couldn't be happier with the ride. Just a tad firmer than stock.

Duperstar, How do you find the Bilstein HD ride on crappy NYC streets, say on the FDR?
I just got a 530xi all stock, no sports suspension. but the shocks are a bit weak. They could be worn out, but only have 56k miles, so I'm not sure.
The original shocks have a great ride over expansion joints and potholes, but they are bouncy over the larger bumps like railroad tracks. Not sure if I replace them with OE (on the presumption that they are worn) or go with Bilstein HDs. I don't want to screw up the ride though.

At 70K, my shocks were shot. (2004, sport suspension). The B8's definitely provide a stiffer ride, but I like it. The car quickly springs back into position, where it should be. Its not uncomfortable, its just different. If you're trying to achieve a limo like ride, B8's won't provide it from my experience.
