They're wrong. I had a 2004 545 too when I had the Aux input installed and they left the CD changer. They are probably referring to the iPod integration kit which does delete the CD Changer because you control the iPod through the CD changer interface in iDrive.

they must be... although the installation instruction thingy from BMWRINO doesn't spell out the impact on the CD changer, it clearly isn't the ipod retrofit... so I'm going to have a another go at asking but this time armed with the printout ;-)

It'll depend on your dealer but BMWRINO got a quote from his for about $225 in labor and the part is about $60 plus shipping from Garry Romani of Newport BMW. And yes, it has a headphone style plug.
That is exceedingly high price for "labor." It is, at most, an hour job including the programming. Rasmussen BMW in Portland, OR charged me $70 for the programming and $59 for the wire harness. I completed the install my self (it is easy).

I actually paid $200 (parts and labor) a few years ago when I had it installed in my old 545 but when I asked this time around, my dealer said the price has gone up to $300 just for the labor. Something to do with BMW not paying/reimbursing them for the labor anymore. Member BMWRINO who lives in my area, called around and got that cheaper $225 price at another dealer.

When I had my Aux input installed at the dealer ('04 545i with Logic 7) I lost my CD changer in the glovebox. They told me there was no other way. I now have the Aux option in I drive but no changer.

damn i hope this works out... losing the cd changer is the only thing keeping me from getting the ipod aux/usb in my car...

btw, doesn't the dension ipod kit integrate with the idrive without losing the cd changer?
