Ordered my 520d last week... didn't know bout the March 07 workover. Anyway, my current E39 is great, so am looking forward to the E60. Ordered it sapphire black... liked the classic look... hope cleaning and waxing over the weekends isn't too bad. Anyway it' a company car... so no sweat!

Now when the facelift will happen in March the eco-thing would be to get the 520dA.

The new engine will have 130 kW (177 hp) and some 350 Nm (?) of torgue.

You guys who have a 520d(A), please tell me about your experiences, pros and cons.

Thanks!
Hello,

I've owned a E39 525d and the E46 325CI and sold them to get myself a nice E60 520d. Comming from those inline sixes one would think that's a step back but that's not at all the case !
This "little" engine surprised me a lot. It has the torque of a modern diesel engine but you can rev it up like a petrol engine. Some of you might think "why not a 525d ?" Well, after some intensive test driving I decided to go anyhow for the 520d for following reasons :
- It has the same power and grunt then my former E39 525d, wich already pleased me a lot.
- It's 4000 ? cheaper then the E60 525d
- Annual taxes is only 418 ? instead of 726 ?
- registration taxes are 1239 ? instead of 2476 ?
- insurance is less expensive
- resale value is much better here due to our stupid tax system
The above situation is for a Belgian vehicule. (Belgium is a very small country in Europe, between France and the Netherlands for those bad in geography ;-)
Taking all these factors in account, I prefere to spend a bit more money on the options list and order the car with complet M sports pack + exclusive line options then for the bigger 525.
I will enjoy more the xenon lights, black leather, pro nav system and all the other gadgets then to drive around in a relatively naked 525d... Altough i recognise the 6 inline is running more "creamy" then the 520d.
Our new toy will be deliverd around newyear, a nice way to start 2007 I think :-)

Thank you all!

Isn't this a great site

My main point is ecological and in that way also economical.

I do not drive much these days.
First service for my July '05 525iA is now coming up with 15,000 km.

Maybe the most ecological thing would be not to buy a new car.

I hope the facelifted E60 really is a better version of the current one.
What that could mean I really do not know, because I'm very happy with my current car.

But the small but strong eco(nomical) diesel enigine in a roomy, comfy, nice looking sedan,
really interest me!

For me the car has to be auto:
I think it's prehistorical to crank windows, use the key for looking doors etc and shift gears.
