Hey guys just wondering which 5 series you guys like better and why? the E39 or the E60.. Me personally i like both but i fell in love with the 5 series through the E39 and i was going to get it but there was something about the E60 that caught my eye. I think i really like the M-tech kit that comes with it which i want to get soon =) so whos the E60 or E39 to you?

The E34 was the first 5series that caught my eye. I never had one, but its looks captivated me into BMW.

I previously had the E39, 1998 528i. No frills, just the premium package. It was jet black with black leather interior. I eventually replaced the suspension with H&R Sport and Bilstein struts, and the wheels with 19" staggered set of M-Parallels. She was very reliable and at times I do miss her.

The E60 545i is a different car altogether, at least IMHO. It's new, more modern. The lines are very different. And there seems to be a great divide between the E39 and E60 fans. I recall when I first got my E60 and posted on an forum (which shall remain nameless here ) regarding the new purchase and immediately getting booed off the board Mind you this is a forum in which I was an active member and poster.

Between the 2, I'll take my E60 any day . The F10 doesn't do anything for me either.

I liked the e39 and all the previous 5 and 3 series in their day. Never had the chance to drive or own them but I liked the styling at the time. The e60 I didn't like at first but obviously grew on me and now to me the older cars look too dated. It will be interesting in 30+ years which model will be considered a classic.

I have both, and I prefer the E39 as a drivers car. The E60 is too disconnected and artificial, but obviously more luxurious.

It was the E39 that I noticed and got me thinking that I might like to have a 5-series. When I went to the dealership and first saw the E60, it was love at first sight and I knew that I was going to get one. For me, at least, the styling of the E60 is very attractive, even though it was different from previous generations.

I've owned all three. Started with an E34 M5. Later had an E39 535i, and now of course an E60 545i. I've loved them all and feel that each one was definitely a huge improvement. The looks of the E60 have taken about 4 years to finally grow on me. If you'd asked me between 2004 and 2007 I'd have told you how much I hate the E60. I still dislike the trunk design from the side view, but the massive appeal of how it drives just overpowers that lingering bangle hatred.

for me E60 looks the best.
i fell in love with the E39 M5, and was about to buy one when the E60 came out. so opted for the 545i and never regretted it.
i still love and respect the E39 .. i think it's shape holds up to the test of time and is more likely to be the classic over the E60 in 30+yrs.
However, maybe the E60 M5 V10 will be a classic .. as all the auto firms struggle in this financial enviroment (if not comletely fall over), we may see the end of large capacity for the time being.. maybe even be that the M5/M6 will remain the only production V10 M uses? that would make it a classic.

in all honesty, there's been VERY few BMW's that i ever disliked. for instance, not a fan of the 1 series. but dont hate it. wasn't a fan of the Z3 .. but dont hate it.
Some models, the flame will never die for me .. like the E30.
My first BMW was an E36 .. and i'll always love the look of them.

Having never owned and E39, I cannot compare the two as far as drivers' cars but I can tell you, back several years ago, I remember joggin at Memorial Park in Houston and cars park along the pathway and Id always see 540's with the sport package and remember how I really like the styling of that car and thought I'd like ot have one. Now that I have an E60, when I compare an E60 w/ M-Tech kit, it blows the E39 away from a styling stand point!

Id have to say E60 for styling, for sure!
