Let's all resurrect a year old thread! YAY! Let's not get in to another stupid argument. In the UK it's illegal to use your fog lights when visibility is above 100 metres, and for good reason, because they are often as blinding as full beam. If I get somebody behind me with front fogs on, I just switch on my rear fogs. In an LCI E60, they are BRIGHT. If the car behind me puts full beam on in retaliation, my good old automatic dimming mirror kicks in instantly. If you think it looks cool, good on you, it's a shame that 99% of the rest of the public think you look like a tit. But as long as you're happy with looking "cool", that's great, I'm very happy for you. The tone of your post, and your use of lights, says a lot about you. But I'm sure you don't give a shit.

I ALWAYS drive with them on as there are way too many little critters (bigger ones too) that like to dart out onto the roadway in the hills that I live in. Many times I have saved my car ....er...the animals life, when I saw them early enough to take evasive action. We get everything from rabbits, coyotes etc up to bobcats and muledeer. Let me tell you those deer in particular are huge! I'm not too concerned that someone may think I'm being rude driving my foglights, especially when my wife and kids are in the car with me!

I'm very surprised by the heated discussion in this thread. We're talking about a subject that legally varies from country to country. In most of Europe, it's illegal to use fog lights during normal conditions. In the US, it's not illegal. So what?
There are lot's of difference--should we argue those too?
There are no speed limits on most of the highways in Germany, although there are most every where else. Are Germans stupid or immature if they do 250 km when the recommended speed is 130km? When they endanger other lives as well?
Some would say yes, some would say no.
The point is that it's legal and that it 's ponitless for us to argue it.
Would you slow down just because someone from the US says so? I doubt it, so why continue this back and forth bickering. At one point in my life, I thought fog lights were cool to have on, but I no longer believe that. I also have a hard time seeing at night, but I've never had to turn on a fog light for help. However, until the US makes it illegal to use during normal condtions, let people do as they please. There are things in Holland too that are legal but illegal else where

Blame me for the resurrection -- I posted a link to this thread in another, more recent thread about the "full time" use of fog lights...
Another thing against the use of too much light...:
Austria made it mandatory to use daylight driving lights.
But they will drop the law, because they now have more accidents then ever. A study showed that DRL is causing more and more trouble in Austria.
Foglights, BTW, are going parallel to the surface, not down onto the surface like head lights.
But I think everyone knows my point of view allready.
