Do I Need A Underride Protection Cover

My opinion is keep it off. I have one sitting in my garage actually. I never put it on after doing the tranny service. You're in cali and there's no snow. I keep mine off because when driving your engine and tranny will get additional air to cool and also I like to know ahead of time for leaks. If you were up north I'd say keep it on but you're not. Aerodynamics is it's purpose that's right but it really doesn't help much anyway.

hahah. I like to be proactive on situations. Cleaning the engine every 3-4 months should be done anyway. especially on European makes. they tend to leak very slowly after 50-70K collecting road debris and building up a "sludgish" material around the pans. dont know about jap cars, never owned one.

Interesting points. The transmission cover actually has a vent on it similar to the RPI scoop to force air over the auto trans filter. At least the new cover BMW sells does. Don't remember if the original that got torn off did...
Well I have to drive in snow and salt covered shit for 3-5 months of the year so covers for me!

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
The dealer lost my cover on my old E36. They dismissed it by saying it wasn't really needed. Anyway, drove that car without a cover for about 5 years and I'm in New England. There was never a problem driving without the cover. Traded the car in to the same dealer who lost the cover, so in the end karma bit them in the butt.
