They replaced a vacuum pump. Not sure what that is.

Try getting it fixed at another dealer for two reasons. FIrst, the current dealer may not be sufficiently competetent to correct the issue. Second, another dealer may simply have a different perspecitive on the problem and cause. You can also get BMW NA to have a field technician take a look. You have lots of good options to exhaust before you need to invoke the lemon law.

i have a three month old kid and dont really have time to just keep going back to the dealer for the same problem over and over, not to mention gas is five dollars a gallon now. and i have contacted bmw na as well as my dealer.

k the dealer called me today and said they fixed the problem. they said it was a bad injector in the third cylinder that caused the engine malfunction code to come up.they ran some tests and everything looks ok. guess i just wait and see.

GL, hope it's finally resolved. If you don't have already a print out of the service history of your car, ask for one when you go pick up your car...just to have on file dates of service and repairs performed....
