DIY E60 Radiator Replacement
#11
There is a drain screw (red cap is the picture) on the old radiator but on the new one I would have to disconnect the lower most hose to drain. In the picture the radiator is upside down but that's how it looks as you are standing over the car looking down. Also remove the overflow coolant tank cap to drain faster.

Great DIY post - -thanks! Looks like I'll get to try this soon, as I've found a small leak in my radiator. Just out of curiousity...how long did this job take you from start to finish?

Should I expect to loose lot of trans fluid during radiator replacement? How does the clip on trans cooler unclip (I don't want to break trying the wrong way)? just pull down?

E60 Radiator Replacement
When removing the auto trans cooler at the radiator, do you pull or push the tab, You said the cooler slides - up or down for removal? What does the trans cooler attach to? I noticed a single nipple on the radiator - is that it? Do I need to replace any o-rings on the cooler while it is off and if so do I need to disassemble the cooler to do so? Thanks for the help.

When I replaced the radiator, I pulled the tab down and removed the trans cooler.
With the fan off, you will see the cooler lines more clearer. I didn't replace any o-rings on/in the trans cooler.

Thank you again for the advice. So once I pull the tab downward on the trans cooler, does the cooler just pop off the lower left nipple that is seen on the radiator picture? Am I to assume that reinstallation involves pressing the trans cooler on the same nipple on the new radiator and sliding the tab upward until it locks?
