I actually owe you an apology on this very topic, Ray. I remember a while back you started a thread complaining about the RFT's - and I steamed in with a contrary view (totally unlike me, I know... ). Having got the new tires I can now see that you were indeed right.

Indeed, defending RFT's is proving hard... Only the 'safety' issue redeems them slightly...

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets. First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.

Out of interest, is there much of a difference in road noise with RFTs compared with regular tyres? I'm not so fussed by the ride comfort, but the road noise on RFTs is quite noticeable given the rest of the car is so quiet.

I cant wait to join the club, unfortunately my tyre insurance keeps on giving me new Dunlop runflats when I get puncture ( 2 in last 4 months ! ). Fronts are nearly worn so I'll get new set then.

MrTrilby, I just did comparison test drives with 3 different 5's, two without sport pkg and one with, that had the newest RE050A runflats. And yes there was a slight increase in roadnoise. I won't know until I drive my car a while if it will bother me enough to change them out immediatlely, but after hearing everyones before and after stories I may (shall I say) work them out a bit to speed up their demise.

Hi guys

My 520d Msport is due to land shortly, do you think the dealer would swop for standard tyres and keep the RF's in stock at no extra cost / part ex?

Has anyone tried this approach?

Just trade in the whole set, if you can, while the are brand new.

Go for the 172's!

Talk to your dealer.
