Hi Friends:
I have read that disconnecting/reconnecting the battery can have some unforeseen (at least by me) consequences. One individual reports that failure to "reset the computer" after disco/reco-ing the battery caused a false flat-tire warning. I would like to know what, if anything, normally is required, in terms of resetting "the computer" or anything else, if one discos/recos the battery. Who knows, I might find a much lighter battery. ~{;^)
I also am interested in knowing anything you know about resetting, I suppose, the ECU in the 545i. I assume that it has a learn function--that adjusts to driving styles and mods, but I am not sure. If one resets the ECU, does the computer start relearning things having been forgotton because of the reset? How do you "reset the computer" in a 545i? Why would you need, or want, to do so?

I've disco'd/reco'd the battery dozens of times, and there are only two effects that I need to correct upon reco:
1. Re-init active steering (annoying but easy).
2. Reset the time and date.
All other settings, etc. are remembered.
Thanks very much Rudy. Interesting, the info about the need to re-initialize some settings after a temporary power loss is at least in the 2005 530i manual. Aren't all the 5 series manuals the same? I'll look at/in mine.
Yes, all one apparently needs to know is on p. 206 on my 545i/5-series manual (i.e., all 5-series manuals the same). The things that are supposed to need resetting either manually or by waiting are active steering; seat, mirror, and steering-wheel memory; time and date; radio presets (mabye); and navagation system. All but the navagation system must be done manually. No mention of false warnings of any kind occurring after disco/reco-ing the battery. But, with computers, many unpredictable things happen.Any thoughts about globally resetting the ECU or any extant learn function on the 5 series? Please see original post.
