If you want something with room check out Merc's GL class. My wife has a GL-450 and it sits 7 comfortably and still has a bit or room after the 3rd row seats. Gas is pretty good if you live in the suburbs and don't mash the gas pedal all the time. You could probably get a good deal on a used '07 or '08 model.

I vote the Gl 450 or the Blue tec one
THe 550gt is oddly shaped and can't fit a proper rear seat.
MB announced a couple minutes ago that the 350 4-matic wagon IS coming to the USA with a possibility of the new AMG one as a special order ( 6.3 (really a 6.2) or the new 5.5 turbo).... Any how it holds 7 with the retro flip up rear ward facing seat... I'm leaning this way if I have to replace the 530 wagon...
Shame on BMW for leaving the market... Caddy also announced the V-series wagon this am , and Acura just let the TSX wagon out of the barn... so BMW thinks it makes seance to kill the F11 in the USA
Way to go BMW way to go....

Thanks for all the comments. Unfortunately the X5 doesn't have the capacity - no proper 3rd row. The Benz is a nice idea but I need more than 7. I already have 7 in the sienna, so if I am going to buy another I need to get 8. Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/XL are OK but their rear seats suck.
I am willing to go American and that is the Ford Expedition/EL. Great seats. Another option is the Toyota Sequoia but I wouldn't get it without the optional anchor in case of sudden acceleration.
