My Ride: Soon to be 2006 530xi Silver on gray. Premium, Premium Sound, Sports(lite), Cold Weather pkgs, Navi
I have a 530xi right and love driving it. The dilemma is that our family is now 7 strong and I need to get something that will fit everybody in. This is mainly because I am concerned about only having 1 7-seater(Sienna). My other concern is about kids going in and out past my car in the garage with various array of toys - I'm paranoid it'll get damaged.
Really need help making a decision about whether to unload the 5 and get an BIG SUV or keep the 5 with/without the BIG SUV.
HELP!

Ditch the kids, keep the car. Or better yet, just put them in the trunk.
Sigh, this is why I have no kids. =(

My wife drives a 3, I drive a 5.
No one wants to sell any of them. So to keep our cars nice and clean - we bought a 2 year old (that time) Mazda MPV with leather bucket seats, power sliding doors, installed a 10" screen, etc.
This way, I can baby my car and not put unnecessary mileage on it.
We use our van to drive to the beach, groceries, etc.
We need something nicer to go to church and other formal stuff so we're planning to buy an X5 4.8 with 3rd row option.

My Ride: 2005 545i /w Sport pkg - SMG - Nav - Premium pkg - PDC - Ready to begin my modding! =)
Sorry, being a single male with no kids I cant relate. But I can tell you my main rival here at work, who happens to always want to compete with me, when he drives us to lunch, I can tell you his S4 interior was shot within a month or two of purchasing his car. Food stuck in the cup holder, leather all scratched up, stains on the floor. He might as well let a dog run around in his back seats....LOL Screw that!!!!
I am inclined to say go with 545iBMW's comment, just buy a used car you can have as a back up car! You can pick up a decent midsized SUV for $5K or less.

I'd try to keep the 5er and get an SUV to haul the family around. The X5 is nice but it's just not big enough for you.
If you want something with room check out Merc's GL class. My wife has a GL-450 and it sits 7 comfortably and still has a bit or room after the 3rd row seats. Gas is pretty good if you live in the suburbs and don't mash the gas pedal all the time. You could probably get a good deal on a used '07 or '08 model.
If you are willing to consider American, then you can't go wrong with a Chevy Tahoe/GMC Suburban. Both are solid trucks that can be buoght used pretty cheap. They even have hybrid versions out there.
