Digital gauges got blank for a few secs...

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530I steptronic, Orient Blue, Dakota Black Leather, Finishers Aluminium with Wave Cutting interior, NAVIgation, Radio PROFESSIONAL, CD in-dash, Hi-Fi extended sound system, PDC system, Bi-Xenons lights with washers, cruise-control, heated seats, Extended AC, auto"shade" mirrors, auto lights sensors, rain/wiper sensor, M-tech leather multifunction steering wheel, side airbags rearseats, sliding armrest, smoker's package (I don't smoke!), velour floor mats, spare wheel and jack, 122 style rims winter setup, M135 style rims summer setup

What happened to me once was that the "digits display" in the midlle of the gauges (that shows stept gears, outside temp, clock, odometer) has got totaly blank once on me during regular ride for about 20 seconds, than it automaticaly went normal by itself.
Heard my friend that it did happeded to his E61 too, but stayed blank until he rebooted the car.
Anyone with the same experiece? Why? What?....

Been there, it has happened to me twice... on the highway. I had to pull over and turn off the car and on again so they would start working again, i wasnt very confortable driving 120 mph with no gauges.
I had the 16.2 upgrade and since then i havent seen that problem again, hopefully it has been corrected.

From what I can remember, only the centre info panel went blank and came back by itself after a few seconds. Unfortunately, I didn't notice if the speedo or tacho stopped working at the same time.

My old E39 and E36's had all gauges go dead on the highway once every year or so for 20 seconds or so

It just happened to me today...it went off but after a few seconds cmame back on a gain but then disappeared for a few minutes before coming back on....i suspect the bulbs or whatever lights it up is worn out which is unusual since my car only has 8k miles on it

WOW you guys jinxed me! Never had this happen and today it happened on the highway for about 5 seconds. Went blank and then came back on. I'm running 16.x already and its still happening... Never happened with my previous version that came with the car which I dont know what it was... Nov 2004 built.

ummm well since you are on CIP 16.x already adn it still did happend so than it may not be the software to blame
how about some mechanical (hardware) prob?someone mention that the gauges display gets too hot???? well as I remember it did happend to me on a very hot day after the car was on the sun the whole day
