For 2005 and 2006, BMW is offering the competition package for the e46 M3. One of the features of this package is m-track mode which is a less intrusive form of DSC.
On the e60 and other next generation BMWs, you can utilize a limited form of DSC by pressing the DSC button once.
Are these two forms of DSC the same thing, or do they differ?

M cars are quite different and DSC is tuned accordingly imo!
I didn't had the chance to drive the M3 CP but all i can say that the DSC on my e60 acts like a normal DSC (early intervention and correction); DTC (never felt any real difference, it allows half a meter more for the slide/wheel spin).

With DSC limited on our cars, it allows some tire spin along with the back end coming out slightly before kicking in.
Prior to m-track mode on the M3s, it was either fully on or fully off, just like any other e46 or earlier make BMW.
