Having owned both, I agree that there is little meaningful difference in pure speed. My 545 did not have the Sports Package, my 550 does. Make sure which ever you choose has the SP!!!

To be faster than 333 HP, 367 aren't enough.
Plus the 550i is heavier in the front, so the 545 is better balanced.

My X5 has the same engine as the 545 and it is an awesome engine !!, I don't think you could really tell the difference ..... just get the option you want >

545i = 3594 lb / 325hp > The quarter mile acceleration time of car A which weighs 3594 pounds and has 325 horsepower is 12.977 seconds.
Where did you get that number? The 545i weighs 3850 lbs.

I find some of the comments a bit ironic. Any tuner who's able to produce additional 15 whp is hailed as "great gain" yet many people are quick to dismiss that 30 whp difference between the 545i and 550i as "insignificant".

Raise your hand if you don't mind spending $2000 for 30 whp, I bet more than half wouldn't.

it's not the gain that is being questioned, it's the "feeling" of the extra hp's. If it's been proven/stated that it's better/faster...one will perceive it to be so as well...

I don't know why but that 27whp difference does not seem to make that big of a difference....
I really don't know about the newer 550i's with the SAT's but so many people have said that the 550i just don't seem any faster. And people have even proven that the 550i isn't faster.

Hand up over here! Having owned both, the difference is not one that jumps out at you, there is no "WOW, what a difference" feeling! It is faster, but just not that much. If the choice is between a 545 with the SP and a 550 without, I'd take the 545 with the SP. If both cars are similarly equipped, go with the 550 assuming the price difference is not a deal breaker.
