Given your location Memo, I would have expected a lot more sand, but that probably gets trapped in the filter? Maybe you should be a bit more excited about that hole/cut in the filter.
Now I undrestand why that air induction noise is so pronounced; lots of volume. And if you really want to get scared, think of all that $3+/gallon gasoline that got mixed with all that air!
Cheers,
Ray Hull

And you think we have air intake filtration problems? Just saw this (and borrowed it from ) the Leica Camera forum...lol

while opening the air filter box do your really have to unplug the electronics as described here before or you just release those metal clips and simply pop-open the filter???
what is a good aftermarket performance filter??? only K&N???? where to buy? I would be afraid there might be some "fake" K&N's on Ebay......
I want the best one but to be sure I can trust that filter to really "filter" the dirt

sorry to semi-hijack this thread but after reading this thread i'm not going to go for the K&N filter or any other..... I simply don't trust there is going to be the maximum filtration....
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?show...9929&hl=K&st=0
must say that after my air filter was exchanged by the dealer on a regular servis visit the car feels better..... so probably a regular cleaning is a must in between those long exhcange periods
