Did Microsoft do the software on the E60?
The other day I was sitting in a drive-through and needed to wash my front window but when I pulled the switch nothing happened except for the wipers coming on as expected. I turned the headlights on and tried again and the headlight washers pumped but the windshield washers didn't. I shut off the car and re-started, then everything was working as normal.
This is just like the IT help desk at my office - "did you re-boot?". Always the first thing they said...

remove key from ignition for 30 seconds and start the car again.
not surprising i guess given the number of modules in these cars.

I know it's sooo funny sometimes and I said the same thing when I first got my E60, however I know one of the guys who worked on the software development of the E60 in Munich and I know for a fact MS had nothing to do with it......LOL

Frankly, I found it funny. Drawing the MS parallel was an easy pot-shot I'll agree. The IT admin's nicknames were "re-boot boopsie" and the "network nitwit".
And yes, considering how many devices are in the car, all chatting away on the bus, it's quite remarkable how few issues I've had. 190,000km and still running great.

Same here - any issues that I have had with electronics has always been battery related. Have 298 000 kms on a 2005 545 6M.
Salut, Bob P.

Actually the idrive software is BlackBerry's QNX system.
As for the wipers, if it becomes more consistent, replace the wiper relay. That took care of it for me.

I had some wierdness when the battery was getting weak. Replaced it and all's well. (But don't get me started about the stealership wanting 3 hours labour to introduce the new battery to the car. Instead, I put in a new one and to hell with the programming. It's been fine for 2 years.)

In all the info i've ever read on the forum and elsewhere i always though the idrive was a windows CE based system like other manufacturers at the time! if you dont mind pointing me in the right direction i'd like to read up about that.

E60 iDrive software is based off of Windows CE, if you google it you'll find several news releases and articles from when the E65 was being launched confirming a partnership between Siemens and Microsoft to supply BMW with the iDrive hardware and software.
