Did the iDrive screen turn silver before V.20.00? (a MP3 question)

I took my car to BMW last week with the MP3 retrofit bulletin and they updated my iDrive software. It's now the Silver screen instead of the Brown screen - They didn't tell me if it was the latest version and "weren't confident" it'd play MP3s. Before when I inserted an MP3 DVD or CD the DVD/CD icon would stay greyed out and I couldn't click on it - now it goes white, I click on it, and it says something like "no supported format".
I burned about 10 different DVDs with different settings including the settings that everyone recommended. I've tried both Maxwell and Memorex DVD+Rs / CD -Rs. Neither work - I thought having the updated version with the silver screen would mean I had at least V.20 and could play MP3s. Any ideas? Is it possible I have V.20 or later and they didn't do something necessary to retrofit the MP3 functionality?
(Car is 2005 545i with navigation)

Sounds like you went there to have the MP3 retrofit not necessarily the iDrive update but they either they failed to do it, the retrofit didn't take or the DVD/CD is not the right format.
You can try to get your MP3 cds tested in someone else's car first or get a CD from someone else, then take it back to the dealership to troubleshoot.

Thanks Felix - well then I'm pretty sure they updated my iDrive software and didn't go to the retrofit menu, scroll down, and select MP3. At least I got my software updated though. I'm going to head to a different BMW and try again.
So now for my car it should only take what? 30 mins or so to retrofit MP3 playback?
