Gt1 is too old and has been replaced with ISTA which is what bmw dealers use now. You can run it either in VMware or native. PM for details, you will need an icom

I received the BM Technic package, shipping to the States only took 3 days (!), and the loading was pretty easy. It did take about 30-45 minutes as it required some computer restarts. I would also recommend running each of the installed modules stand-alone before using it on your car as I had some additional software downloads necessary; I did this just to familiarize myself with the software, so I'm just passing what I noticed along.

I haven't used it on my car yet, but plan to this weekend.

No doubt ISTA is the latest technology but for daily use GT1 will still serve very well
For diagnostic/calibration/resetting/etc i still use GT1 v57 on my 2010 550i , even it recognizes cars up to 2009
You just need the latest K-LINE interface with PIN 7-8 disconnected to work with it
90% modules will work ( for example I did active steering calibration after alignment , adaptation values tramsmission reset ), the latest modules will not work ( for example cant recognize iDrive CIC )
but i really dont want to touch them even
Not for coding

Just thought I'd give a update on my experience with the BM Technic. I also bought a Powermax, PMBC-75 power supply/battery charger so that I wouldn't have to worry about the battery dieing during troubleshooting.

I've been using DIS and INPA for checking faults and DIS is definitely much more powerful since it does provide troubleshooting guides and service information; if you haven't used it, it looks like TIS.

I just replaced the battery in my 530i and had to use NCS Expert to recode the car and DIS to register the battery. Everything went very smooth and the technical support from Chris at BM Technic was super; he was responding to my questions at 9 PM his time. He has the M3 Cutters forum (I hope this ok to say) were he has different threads on using the software and general BMW questions.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this software, cable, and support and would definitely recommend it.

Most of the time paying upfront for the right hardware/software pays for itself. I bought cheap USB obd2 programmer before I knew anything about the software. I ended up spending one and a half weeks searching for DIS, looking for instructions and installing it on my computer.

I recently purchased this package but the one for $35 same seller. I only needed one protocol for 2004 E60. Software works great, comes with 10 page detailed instructions, guides and online support for install or any other problems with the system. INPA and DIS work great I dont intend on using any of the other programs it comes with. In my opinion worth EVERY PENNY. The one I purchased doesnt support cars after 2007 I believe so if your car is 07 or after you may have to spend the $89 or if you would be using it for cars varying in year. SAME EXACT SELLER.

Wow that's great news. Thank you.

I will look at that from him as well.

Mine is a 2006 so that should do it, but we might be buying a 2014 328 diesel.
So I may need the whole program.

Will the program you purchased allow mods etc to be done?

What about a cable?

Well price is ok but please keep in mind that DIS and SSS are very old programs and have been replaced in 2007. Also, if your car was programmed using the Ista p (sss replacement) then sss will no longer work with your car. Ncsexpert and inpa are part of bmw standard tools package which is free online just google it.
Programming with k+dcan is a joke, it will take you days to program the whole car and the chance to brick a module is high.
If you can afford get the new Ista d/p and a quality icom clone. You can configure to use the icom with standard tools(inpa, ncsexpert, winkfp) and will be much faster than k+dcan
