Diagnostice Software for E60 Opinions
Hi,
I have a 2007, 530i and I do DIY repairs. I have the Bentley manuals for it. I had a 2001, 325 Ci and I learned the value of having both the manual and a BMW-specific tool (Peak in this case).
I have read several threads on this subject, but I have only seen recommendations on what to use. I was wondering what your experience using these three software packages has been. Specifically how is the ease of use and the interface, utility, and technical support.
1. BM Technic - (Least expensive)
2. Bavarian Technical Enthusiast- (Most expensive)
3. Eu Auto Haus, package 3 - (in the middle)
Thanks,
Darrin

GT1 and a setup of BMW standard tools (INPA, Winkfp, NCSExpert and tool32. Bmw standard tools is free you just need a laptop (preferably winxp) and the obd cable which cost between $30 -$70. These are the only tools you need if you own an E60 up to 09.

I have the Eu Auto Haus, Package 3 and also the Bentley Service Manual (a must have!).
I don't recommend the EU Auto Haus because most of the important functionalities in that package are in German (useless in my book). Even with the help of Google language translator, I don't bother messing with it because I don't want to f@ck up my car more than the current problem I might have at the time. It's too much of a hassle, going back and forth with Google Language Translator when you want to approach the problem(s) directly. Also, if you choose to buy this package, make sure you ask all the questions before you pay. Otherwise, you are own your own after that.
I also own this: BMW Parts and BMW Accessories | Bavarian Autosport
And everything is in English. It reads/resets Proprietary BMW Fault Codes.

Thanks for the tips. I've found the GT1 online, but do the standard BMW tools come with it?
I have used Pelican Parts for a while. They have high quality parts at a reasonable price. Quick shipping too.

After doing a lot of research, I pulled the trigger on the BM Technic software. Why? I read some really extensive reviews on other forums which document it well. Cost was a factor, but what really swayed me was that Chris provides super technical support, the feature set appears consistent with EU Autohaus, it's compatible with 32 and 64 bit versions of XP thru win 8, easy loading and setup, and I don't have to worry about where it comes from (think China, Romania, etc.). The biggest downside is that I have to wait for international shipping from UK.
After reading some good write ups on other BMW forums I was really leaning toward the Bavarian Technic. It has a really user-friendly interface that makes BM Techinic and EAH look archaic, but in the end the 3 vin limit, cost, lack of a TIS, and the technical support responses I read caused me to discount it.
When I get it, I'll post some updates. As with any posts, this is my opinion and YMMV.
Take care.

I hear you. I did find the OEM software, but I wasn't exactly sure of what to download or where it came from. The way I see it, in addition to the cable, I paid for the tech support, easy setup, and not risking infecting my computer.
