There is a supply issue problem with the 19" style 172 alloys just now and dealers are not supposed to accept orders for them until the issue is resolved but there is no date when this will happen as yet.
As for swapping your wheels once your car enters production this is a definate no no. BMW now have one of the most flexible production processes going and I was able to change the spec of my E90 3 series up to around 2 weeks before production which is pretty amazing. Not many years ago it used to be something like 7 or 8 weeks before production that the spec had to be finalised. They have to order all of the ordered components from their various external suppliers so that items are delivered to the line in a just in time sequence. Every set of wheels in the factory is allocated to a specific car hence the reason they cannot be changed. It will be expensive to switch once your car arrives as you will need both a complete set of rims and tyres. The 19" 172 alloys are a ?750 line fit option so I would think you are looking at well over ?2k for a retrofit by your dealer.

My dealers ( Luxembourg and Germany) agree to change the wheels without any problem. Just maybe charge the differrence in catalogue prices....

I'm driving a diesel for the first time, and loving it.
Never had a BMW before. Always had petrol before, and usually with good power. My 530d doesn't disappoint.
And the 35MPG is fantastic.

Thanks ISUK for the explanation re changing the wheels. When I think about it I can see it makes sense. Think I might struggle to get 2K for retro fit 19's past 'she who must be obeyed'!
The only thing I am going to miss from 3 litre, straight six petrol, is the glorious sound it makes.
During my 535d test drive noticed the slight clatter at approx 1500 rpm, but I guess its a small price to pay for all that power.
