Dension Gateway 500 vs. BMW OEM Ipod Adaptor

Hi,
I have just bought a 2006 E60 520D with a single slot CD play and no CD changer fitted. (How do I know the spec of the sound system??)
I want to upgrade to add in Ipod functionality (who uses CDs??????) and bluetooth.
The Gateway 500 with BTA1500 looks perfect for me.
How well does it integrate with IDrive???
Are all options operable from the IDrive system??
Do I have to get my software updated by me dealer to integrate the system?
If so, what do I ask them??

You need the dealer to do enable coding for anything to show up on the iDrive.
