Sorry, meant to pose the question about the BMW OEM iPod adapter to mschuler. But, BlaSTiWi, what do you think of your Gateway?

there was a 500 songs limit with the older idrive software but i think bmw fixed that on the current version. i had my idrive updated last december and now there's no problem.

Don?t assume like I did that if your car plays mp3 already via CD drive that it will hot-swap to an OEM Ipod interface. You might also still need to have the Idrive coded via the dealer at extra cost to recognize the ipod interface or Gateway.
My 2008 car could play mp3 so I took out my CD changer, put in the OEM Ipod interface unit, connected via the MOST connector. My Ipod shows the ?BMW? logo, but does not play because there is no interface with idrive. It now needs coding at BMW for extra $?s, which is really dissapointing having already spent hundreds $'s.

CCCPLus, thanks for the info. regarding the song limit(or lack thereof)on the iPod interface. BMW Of Dallas has the adapter for $350, $450 installed. That's about the cheapest I've seen it, but then again you have to come to Dallas to have it installed
I am not going to install it myself, because I don't feel like messing around with everything, even though it looks like a really, really easy install. Plus, I knew it would require a software reinstall, so the $450 seemed like a good deal.
