Right you are. Looking at my registration papers it is infact e1*2001/116*0230 and there's also a *10 appended at the end, not found on the sticker. What bureaucratic intelligence lies behind this from the EU I'm not so interested in so I'll consider that mystery solved.
We're on the scent of the headlight icon and 1.0% but missing insight into the digits after the color code, the /9 and 0.50 inside a square. possibly references to interior color/upholstry?

Also,the code 306D5 is not the engine code,the same code is on the 530d and the 525d labels,I know ,I've looked !
As said by a member earlier,for any spares,etc. all you need is the VIN number - ignore the label !
P.S Back to the paint code - I recall a "Star Silver" on a GM car which had the same touch-up code even though there were 5 versions of that colour over a 7 year period.

If indeed the other 3-litre engines carry the same designation, then I suspect it deals with the engine block; whereas the M57...... Then deals wirh equipment and tune stage of the enines; does that sound credible to you?
As to the label, I still would like to know what it says!

Ambiguous statements made without the benefit of nonverbal communication are so easily misinterpreted... so thank you for the clarification!
A seperate thread was asking where to find the engine code and that led me to questions why the door sticker is there and what info it displays. Inquiring minds wants to know..
