I am thinking of debadging my car. I have search and found most of the posts on how to do it. My concern is whether the paint will show some discoloration where the badge once was. I have a titanium silver 2004 525i. I know on a new car there would be no problem. Has anyone debadged a three or four year old car? If so, has the paint been discolored or not the same shade as the rest of the paint, to the point it cannot be polished out?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Hey MDT,

Only one way to find out...
Seriously though, I've known a couple of folks who have removed their badges *and* their BMW hood ornament ('Cause they were either going to repaint their car or unfortunately some *&%$ stole it).

In both cases, there did not appear to be any noticeable difference.

Have you kept your car out in the sun for most of its life?

Good Luck,

You should be fine but you can always polish the car to even out any differences...

My previous car (E39 525i) was exactly 2 year old when I bought it CPO. Got the dealer to debadge it and it looked fine - no paint tone differences, paint damage, etc.

I think you should be fine debadging without side effects.

as long as you ask your dealer then they will take it off for you for free, and (if they do scratch it or damge it then) they can repair it

Shouldnt happen though.

I had this done after i got delivery, forgot to mention it when i ordered it.

Thanks for all the input guys. Maybe I'll just take one number off first to see. Then, I could always put one back on if it shows too bad. Maybe I'll try taking the "2" off first. If I don't like it, I could put a "5" back on and really keep people guessing!
