I have a 2005 525i that I picked up used. Apparently the sirius radio was taken out of the car before I bought it. I have taken it to the dealer numerous times and the problems never seemed to get fixed... finally my service advisor told me that the car need to be reprogrammed or something, and this could not be done because the sirius radio was missing. I also asked him about the emissions recall letter I had received and he told me this would also not be able to be fixed with out the sirius radio. He said to put a new on in it would be $800-$900 or to rewire the car it would be $500. PLEASE HELP!!! My car right now is drivable but it has a lot of hesitation and the engine vibrates alot..

very appreciative,

BEN

Who did you buy the car from? Did they take it out thinking they could use it another car?

But this sounds like a crock 'o sh*t to me, as I ordered my car pre-wired for Sirius as factory install was not available in Dec 2003. Car delivered in Feb 2004 but I did not get the Sirius unit installed until Mar 2005 so I drove around for a year with no radio in place and had a couple of software updates done including an emissions recall. I would go try another dealer if I were you. The only caveat is if the person who reomoved it caused some kind of damage but I doubt that...

Hey thanks for the reply. I did talk to another dealer and they said that it did not sound right...... but did not give a concrete answere. The only thing is that if the car was wired with the Sirius radio in it and then taken out would this cause some of the problems???????

It shouldn't as the unit is plug and play. The dealer simply loads the proper software so that the unit works with the iDrive. I just really find it hard to believe that removing the unit would cause the problem...

It should not cause any problem. It seems like your dealer is desperate to sell you another Sirius unit. I would call BMW NA and ask them if it is a problem and go to another dealer.

Does your car have the option for "SAT" in the entertainment menu? Just curious...

Sounds pretty lame to me but then again, it's possible that the software update is getting screwed up somehow. You'd think they'd be able to tell the car it no longer has the Sirius unit (or borrow one from another car (or the parts dept.) to accoplish the programming then just put it back.
