Hello,
I have a 2006 525i with about 46,500 miles on it. I bought the car new in 2005. A few months ago my dealer said that I have an engine oil leak and that they needed to replace the housing seal or that oil would keep leaking. They told me to keep an eye on it and if I get a warning of low oil levels to bring it in. Since then I have been checking the oil level graphic on the I Drive about once every 2 weeks and it has always shown that the oil level is at maximum. Yesterday I took my car in for its once a year oil and filter change. They again told me that there is an oil leak and that I should get it fixed. They want to charge me $989.00 to fix this leak.

My question is that has anyone heard of this type of issue happening on a car with so few miles on it and if so does that price sound reasonable for this type of repair? My car has been under warranty for the past 6 years since I bought the extended maintenance plan. In July of this year the warranty was over. I am concerned that now since I am out of warranty they are trying to tack on problems just to get money. Thank you.

Yup. My car was burning oil badly, and even had all the oil spill out on a road trip. Took it in under CPO and they told me it has a leak (also had a coolant leak and transmission leak, when it rains it pours I guess). Anyway, they said they replaced the housing seal (about 2 weeks ago). A few days later, the oil started dropping again to minimum. I have since put 2 quarts of oil in the car, which they had supposedly topped off.

Dropped the car off again this morning. I haven't received a call from them. Will keep you posted on what they find. Clearly the housing seal isn't the only problem. My car has 61,xxx miles on it. More than yours, but not much, and definitely not enough to be burning oil at this fast of a rate (I know bimmers burn oil regularly, but this is quite fast).

Will keep you updated.
