Dealer says Dynamic Drive controller faulty

My Ride: 2006 530i Sport

My car intermittently pops up a Dynamic Drive malfunction error message. There is a corresponding pop in the suspension so I think it is working suboptimally when in this state.
After a minute or two, restarting the car remedies it and function is restored.
Dealer scoped it Friday and after a few passes found a hardware fault. They say they "think" it's the dynamic drive controller but my faith in them has been shaken recently.
They said part and labor is $958.
Any advice?

I would check the battery&alternator first before any repairs. Weak battery can trigger a dynamic drive error (happened to me).
If you are hesitant I would get a second opinion from a good indy shop.

That's interesting about the battery, I'll have to file that factoid away.
i would get more info/details from the dealer about what exact "hardware" they found was faulty. Also would get that second opinion before dropping that kind of money, considering you're already saying you don't have faith in them.

BMW replaced my battery about a year ago. Doubt it is that.
