[quote name='E60Speed' date='Aug 10 2005, 10:38 AM']Do it here and people think you are nuts

they will flash you all the time and even pull you over to tell you that you forgot to turn your lights off

The Daytime running lights are pretty low level - they don't look like you have your lights on.

I did it because in my area, certain times of the year, we get a high fog condition that is not enough to turn the lights on. Figured it may save me some body work someday.

Safety.IMO in the very near future every body will have DRL as well as Run Flat Tires just because of safety reasons, you won't have a choice.

Saftey is definitely true, but it will be about as successful as seatbelt laws and helmet laws. It is really hard to protect people from themselves! Heck, look at me, I don't ues the DRLs!

There have been many threads about this in the past with studies that show reduced accident rates and others that don't. I believe in them, so I have them on. I look at as cheap insurance and I don't mind the way they look. My car is also Black, which can tend to blend into the background. If it was yellow or red I probably would not have them on.

Here in the Nordic countries there's a law on this.
We drive with our headlights on nite and day, in summer and winter.

The Governments say it's for safty reasons, and I feel they might be right.

Daytime Running Lights ....just one example of the safety Nazi's influence run amock. Why don't we insist on a purple flashing strobe mounted on the roof, or how about the horn continually sounding short bursts, or....this would be cool....the four way flashers, sequentially flashing out morse code style 'ARIVE ALIVE, DRIVE 55'. If it takes daytime running lamps to make you alert enough to drive, perhaps you should be taking the train.

I always use automatic mode so I let the system to decide . in the tunnels it swithes on -out of it off, but also when it is dark or i park in my garage it turns on.

You must be the same guy that thinks we shouldn't have traffic lights at intersections.Take a drive on highway #1 in FLA.and see if your opinion stays the same.

Lets compare apples to apples, shall we? Are traffic lights mounted on your car? Did you pay 60k for it?

He's not talking about anarchy here, we're talking about common sense. We don't need people like yourself force feeding us bad rules and laws. We have enough of them as it is. If it were up to you, knives would be outlawed too eh?

I don't need the car telling me what to do. It is I, that should tell the car what to do. BMW is getting really bad about this. There are already speed limiters on our cars, would it make you extra happy if it were limited to 55mph? Or how about how fast you can get to 55mph, also? Give me a break.

There are laws in place that punish people if they hurt others, lets keep it at that? We don't need the government to play mommy. I've already got a GF that nags me everytime I speed or forget to buckle up.

The best thing FL ever did was to rescind the helment law, what do I care if a motorcyclist bashes his brains all over the concrete? They're adults and, it was their choice. Most importantly, it doesn't hurt me in the least bit. Except, maybe, if I actually see his brains, at which point I'd be puking my guts out. LOL
