When I took delivery of my 2006 530xi I was asked if I wanted the daytime running lights programmed. I said I would think about it. Are most people doing this?

I personally don't care for the look, but that's my opinion. You don't indicate your location, but some states and countries (Canada I recall) require them. In Louisiana, they get you a very small discount on insurance but are not required, so mine are off...

Do it here and people think you are nuts
they will flash you all the time and even pull you over to tell you that you forgot to turn your lights off

There have been many threads about this in the past with studies that show reduced accident rates and others that don't. I believe in them, so I have them on. I look at as cheap insurance and I don't mind the way they look. My car is also Black, which can tend to blend into the background. If it was yellow or red I probably would not have them on.

I somehow think your car will come with the same option, so you can easily decide and experience which option you prefer. BUT, it might be that software versions differ per country on this kind of features......

I have it switched ON. My car with delivery date of July 2005 has a menu option where you can switch this option on/off yourselves. No programming needed.....

I did it because in my area, certain times of the year, we get a high fog condition that is not enough to turn the lights on. Figured it may save me some body work someday.
