Searched the forum but could not find an answer... Is there a sensor on the running lights? When I turn my key to the left and leave it, I was under the assumption that the lights remain on all day. However, I noticed that now they turn off during the day and turn on at dusk. Normal?

DRLs are either on or off. That's a dealer-set software option.

Headlights are automatic, when the headlight switch is set to the left "A" position.

When the car's on with DRLs set to on and headlights on "A" the DRLs are on until the headlights come on, then the DRLs are off, and vice versa.

John is correct but one more detail needs to be added:

The automatic headlight sensor doesn't work very well. Depending on your software version and another parameter set by the dealer, the auto headlights are sometimes on even in broad daylight.

If you're seeing the headlights come on even in the day, don't be confused by it. It's another bug that I hear is being worked on...

Where is the sensor? Is it located next to the center speaker on the dash? I often wondered what that little button-like protrusion was...

There are two sensors -- I forget which one does what right now but can verify it later if someone else doesn't chime in...

One sensor is where you describe, sticking up out of the center of the dash. The other sensor is pressed against the windshield behind the rear-view mirror (near the rain-sensor).

One controls the auto lights, the other controls the relative brightness of the CID & MID in between the speedo and tach, I believe.

I think that one also has something to do with the A/C system. I think it's a solar "position sensor" to help determine the angle of the sun, among other things.

That little button is the GPS.

Read all your replies. What is strange is it changes from my wifes key and my key. Mine stays on all day, her's cut off during the day. But its good to know its normal. Thanks.
