Same here.. if I want DRLs i'll use my parking lamps.

The setting for DRLs? Its at the dealer.
They're the only ones that can do it.

Thanks

That seems like too much hassle for a flick of a switch. I don't want to say I hate going to the dealer, but it can be a long process. Especially when you don't have the time.

Eh, I never set my lights to auto. So I just always move the light switch to the 1 O'clock position *Inner Circles*, and use those and my DRL. I honestly never knew there was a US spec setting to automagically to this.
Just don't forget that if you have the adaptive headlamps, when you turn on your headlights be sure to use the 11:00 position and not the 2:00 position or the lights won't move with the steering wheel...

Day Time Running Lights-bmw_m5_e60_front.jpg

This is the DRL in Europe, they are always ON while the headlight switch is in "A" on ON (11 o clock and 2 o clock)... So we don't have any use of the light sensor here in Europe...

I would LOVE to have it the US way, like the new Audi's (with xenon) have it here in Europe, the DRL option should extend the xenon bulb lifetime.

I will ask our dealer next time, but they don't have a clue as usual..

BTW: Just got home from a 800 km trip this weekend... We just drove 360 km, with the comsumption of 6.3 L/100 km, the car was loaded with stuff!

E60sim - do not worry about the xenon lifetime man
I had my lights all the time on my Audi and did 120.000 km
by the time the xenon light lifetime will come you will be having a new car already

That might be right And xenon bulbs are not that expensive anymore... I would just like to use the car's light sensor

I think we will keep this E60 3-4 years, and we have done 75.000 km with it until now, so 3-4 years more and end up having it, when it's 5-6 years old and have done 200.000 km's...

HA! tell that to Lexus! They wont turn mine off! Supervisor said NO Manager said NO, told me I had to go talk to the General Manager of Lexus + Toyota and then later said I had to talk to Corporate Head Quarters of Toyota North Ameraica to get it in writing... I had to argue for an hour and a half before the SA secretly had the Tech turn it off. Such BS. [/Lexus Rant] Sorry.

DRLs are set through iDrive menu in the lighting section.
At least they are on mine. (UK E61).
They were set to on when my car was delivered. I turned them off as soon as I realised.
