They probably change the wattage/intensity/brightness of the AE. PWM_AN_SL_V_AL_1_34 in the LMA module, for the guys familiar with NCS. I dunno how many values it has, I assume at least six, since the default value is wert_06, but wert_01 sets it to stick to highest brightness. I would assume that wert_06 is the "automatic" mode, where the AEs dim depending on the light, or if headlights are on etc.

And agreed, sounds like typical dealer BS. I've never heard of any such adjustment despite going through several DRL bulbs on my '08 550.

I went to my local dealership last week to replace a burned out daytime running lamp (bulb) - This is the second time I've had to replace in 78K miles. I ask my Service Advisor the average lifespan of these bulbs and he says, "on average 2-3 years". He then proceeds to say, "We can also re-program your car to make these bulbs last longer, for an additional $210." I'm thinking, are you kidding me - Is this guy for real? Of course, I declined the programming. What a bunch of criminals!!!
