They probably change the wattage/intensity/brightness of the AE. PWM_AN_SL_V_AL_1_34 in the LMA module, for the guys familiar with NCS. I dunno how many values it has, I assume at least six, since the default value is wert_06, but wert_01 sets it to stick to highest brightness. I would assume that wert_06 is the "automatic" mode, where the AEs dim depending on the light, or if headlights are on etc.

Understood! My attempt at sarcasm was clearly lost in the plain text...

And agreed, sounds like typical dealer BS. I've never heard of any such adjustment despite going through several DRL bulbs on my '08 550.

I highly doubt this for the reason that dealerships doesn't have factory authorization to use NCSExpert and the like. Basically they shouldn't have access to these tools.

Well of course they don't use NCS, but they certainly have the hardware and software needed to program a car.

Yes, but Progman can't do what NCSExpert can.

In short, they can't do it.
