The illumination on my E60 dashboard (ie the digital readout showing the gear, mileage etc) tends to dim when the car is slowing down, and brightens when the car is accelerating. Any idea what is causing the dashboard lights to behave in such a manner? Thanks for the help.

I'm not mechanic but based on past experience that seems like a weeka battery. Your SA (service advisor) should perform a quick check and tell you.

There may be a problem that's voltage related but one thing to look at is whether or not the change in brightness is due to a change in ambient light.

I've seen mine change from bright to dim and back to bright again as I drove down a road that had a line of street lights. Each time I approached a street light, I'd notice a change in intensity of the display (it became brighter.) As I passed the first light and approached the next one, the display would darken when the car was in between them and brighten again as I got under the next light.

If that's the case with your car, then everything is working normally...

Could be a generator problem.
