Either way, you have to change both (at least that's what's recommended). You can find both brand new for a very reasonable price. I bought a brand new FSU for $50. It is also a job you can do yourself, if you enjoy a good DIY. If you are not a DIYer then don't attempt because it involves a lot and is very tedious.
Well, you were right on, Gee! Brought it to my indie and after installing the new blower motor, he discovered that the resistor had also gone bad (one probably caused the other). Anyway, after four hours labor, my wallet is $600 lighter, but it's nice to have the A/C back again. I'm glad I didn't attempt it.

My fan quit. I pulled fan, tested on bench with power supply and it worked. Replaced FSU and reinstalled. The fan still did not work. Pulled again and replaced fan. All was then well.
