As the temperatures here in NY were real nice last week I had the ac blowing. I am noticing a nasty damp musty smell on startup. What could this be? Covered under warranty?

Have you looked at your cabin microfilters? You can check the service interval remaining in your iDrive, but I would check them visually as well. I replaced mine with the activated charcoal version from after market.

First things I'd make sure are NOT wet:

- Passenger-side foot area, particularly the floor. Just feel the carpet and make sure its dry.

- Under the spare tire

- Battery compartment

But that's more like "can't be too careful" thing. If it is really bothering you, just take it into the dealership, since you're under warranty.

sounds like a wet floor mat... i had this same problem a few weeks ago because some dumbass at the BMW stealers "washed" the rear pass carpet and put it back in soaking wet and soapy let it dry in the sun after removing as much soap as i could and the smell went away in a few days

I just got my car back from service at dealer, where they also replaced cabin air filter and supposed fixed the A/C smell I reported. The smell was gone for about three days, and now has returned, exactly like before. The smell is sorta musty, but more "sweet". I know, it's hard to describe it, but it does not seem normal. The description on the service invoice says treat with Wynns/Wynns a/c cleaner. I researched the product, and it seems to be a treatment for stinky A/Cs. But, I don't know if they used the "Wynns Treatment", or just sprayed the stuff into the car. Whatever they did, it didn't work. I'm going to have to call them tomorrow to try it again.
