I'm at 48500 miles and extended warranty plus maintenance cost $3800 something plus tax, i.e $4000. Even then the idrive is not covered.

I'm very seriously considering upgrading to a 550/535.

Any ideas.

Can you explain to me what this means?

What I am getting from this is that BMW wont cover you for warranty work on I D rive? What is their case?

I was told all the electronics, iDrive, Stereo, CD, DVD etc. are not covered. I was also told by my dealer that BMW has replaced many without question and I should not worry. But technically accessories are not covered.

IMHO key to maint being worth is are the brakes. Your driving habits and traffic determine their life in your car.

It would not take too much of a case to prove the opposite, If accesories are bought with the car and are supplied as part of the car then they are legally warrantied with your car. When you go and buy accessories from your BMW dealer as add ons, this is completely different and follows a completely different legal route as your dealer is technically supposed to warranty them probably only for 1 year.
