The other day I got the message to add a liter of oil. So obediently I did and left the car overnight.

When I next used the car I check the oil level, the oil level indicator went up from the bottom of the scale to about halfway up. About 15 minutes later (traveled about 8k) the indicator was now showing full. And has remained so.

My question is what is going on with the oil that overnight it was unable to drain from the head to the sump and that even under load it took 15 mins to register full?

Yes and you should fill back a liter of oil.

I had this same error msg come up last nite and just got back from the dealership. the technician added the required 1 quart of oil but then checked the dipstick in the engine and he said it was still low and would need another quart. so he added another one. the error msg is gone but am concerned if the engine was overfilled with oil. it might be that it takes a while for an accurate reading to show.
