Greetings,

Sadly I was pulling into my driveway avaoiding some snow, drinking a nice warm cup of starbucks, and scrapped my rim (Style 172M) against some belgian blocks ... Damage is minimal, but would like to get repaired. Dealer quoted $125 to repair the scrap.

Has anyone had their rim(s) repaired? If so, can you share your experience? I'd like to know if the general consensus is to have spot repaired or to have entire rim redone (whaever the hell that means)...

Anyone from LI know someone other than the dealership that is worth recommending?

Sorry for the 1,000 questions. Thanks inadvance.

Cheers,
Sergio

If you search through previous posts on the subject for the NY area, you will find quality recommendations for wheel repairs.

Hey Sergio,

Word of advice, select a machine shop to do the repair. I had mine done by my dealer's source, and the repair was done in a trailer in the dealer's unpaved storage lot. Dust from the dirt road got into the finish on the wheels. so, 1) don't have it done unless its necessary, and 2) have metal specialists do it, not some guy in a trailer.... They paint and recoat your wheels. My wheels have a small amount of dirt under the clear coat that will never come off now...

Good luck.

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

If your daring, which I am I'd suggest the following link. It's a DIY wheel repair tutorial, and by the looks pictures brings the wheels pretty close to show room condition. I think the DIY is pretty straight forward, and probably cheaper then paying someone to do it. I'd say if you feel comfortable with doing it yourself then go for it. sorry to hear, curb rash tends to be an easy repair as long as you got someone who knows what they are doing....

Thank you guys for your two cents...very insightful, and will consider it all. I am a real DIY kind of guy, except with the cosmetics of my cars...too much of a wuss.

Regards,
Sergio
