My Ride: Just gone-520d m sport- Jet Black- Dakota Leather black- AluCube interior,
On order- F10 520d SE-Titanium Silver
My owner's manual vaguely states that with the manual gearbox gear changes can be made while using cruise control. There is no more info. than this however this statement leads me to wonder....... is there a way to change gear manually without the cruise control automatically disengaging as the clutch is depressed. It's a real pain if, when cruising at 100kph, the change from 4th - 5th causes speed to drop and furious prodding at the cruise contol stalk (prodding at the stalk.... fnarr, fnarr!) is required to get back to 100.
I would be delighted to be proved ignorant if someone can tell me how maintaining a fix speed is possible using via CC when manually changing gear.

On my '04 545 changing gears would disengage the cruise. On my '07 550 with active cruise this is not the case. Changing gears does not interrupt the cruise, the target speed is maintained. Nice change

You can't. The cruise control disengages when you depress the clutch.
In this version of cruise (notice it is not active cruise... just the standard one) you can change gears in a manual without automatically disengaging cruise. In fact, the cruise control will even suggest when you need to change up or down a gear. It will also rev-match on upshifting automatically while all the time keeping you in cruise.

Surely if you want to change gear, then CC isn't a good idea anyway.
It's not a big deal to disengage CC, change gear, then back to CC. For me, I don't use CC unless I'm already in 6th, and only when in 6th. So if I have to slow down, then I really should have feet on the pedals anyway.

I take my foot off the gas when shifting, shifting with active cruise would be like shifting while leaving the your foot on the gas pedal. Never tried it before, don't think I will either.
