Get the 550. You can always mod the wheels and suspension and put on the M-Tech bodykit for most of the Sports Package experience.
That's what I said most of the experience.

"most of the sports package experience"? yea, other than the active roll bars and the active steering, which make a huge difference. WTF? you can't put either of those on no matter what aftermarket mods you make.
true that !
but what are you trying to accomplish?? a smoother ride? the down fall by doing that is that you will really like the power and torque of the 550 that you are going to want to get the sports pkg !!!

Yes this sounds crazy but hear me out. I just got a CPO 2006 530i sport/nav a little over a week ago. I was wondering if the non-sport package car is a lot smoother in terms of ride. Would I be crazy to trade my car in for a CPO 550i without sports (about the same miles)? Would I be ripped off by doing this (probably!)?

Anyways just a thought, or maybe I should just get non-run flat tires

I think that you would love the power of the 550i, but in my opinion you would definitely miss the sport handling. And yes, the run flats sux big time.

Keep it. You'll lose money on the trade not to mention being taxed again....

Well the first thing you should do is test drive the car. That will let you know if you will like the car without the sport package. Personally I would never buy a BMW without a sport package. You may even want to drive one with the sport package to make sure that you are not making a mistake.

What air pressure do you have in your tires? Have you tried adjusting the air pressure? That might make the ride more to your liking without costing anything.

I have a sport model without the active steering(IIRC) and roll bars, and its excellent without already.

Lose the run flats if you wanna improve the ride.

Run-flats suck!

Switching tires will surely give you a smoother ride.

You cannot possibly be married and be able to seriously consider doing that. My wife would not even entertain such a money wasting proposition. Ah to be able to do what you want and not what is fiscally sound....... I guess women were put on the earth for a reason (lol).

What tire pressure would you recommend to get the best ride? I have an 06 sport with the 18inch wheels and run flats.
