I seem to have some funny 'going-ons' with courtesy lights: when I open the boot (trunk) the light comes on then goes off almost immediately, if a passenger door is opened the boot (trunk) light comes on again and then goes off again. The map lights don't come on when pressed but do come on when I switch off the engine and open the door and almost immediately go off again (the centre light stays on for about 30 seconds).

The glove box light came on for an instant when I removed and replaced the fuse, otherwise it won't go on.

I assume there are vanity lights behind the sun visors but I've not seen them come on at all.

I can't find a timer for any of these lights so can I presume its a programming problem? Can I get it checked for free or is that a no-no now its out of warranty?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Guys,

The iDrive function I have only controls 'day light' running lights and 'follow me home' lights - there is nothing there for boot/trunk, map/reading, glove box or sun blind/vanity mirror lights. All the bulbs work as they can all be activiated momentarily but all go off after about a second.

I think I have the same problem as user 'Parmblagan' http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=78014 but I have not had a software upgrade.

thanks,
Paul

Hi there,

Any luck? I am dealing with the same problem and I just found out that sometimes when I drive, if the reading lights are turned on, they really come on and I can actually use everything normally for a period of time. Let's say 5-15min and than they die on me again. I drive a 2004 BMW 525dA Touring.

Thanks in advance,
Sebastian

The LM is located in the driver's side footwell I believe.
If you know of any INDY, first have them encode the complete car and this may resolve the issue. If you know anyone that uses NCS, use the latest updated daten and do a 'process car' in expert mode to revert the vehicle back to the vehicle order. This may fix the issue. The interior lights may have been coded to do what they are doing so it may not be a physical problem at all.
