exactly.

check the two main hydraulic hoses. i have to snug up one of mine every so often as it works slightly loose for some reason.

Just a vent tube, I would not worry too much about it.

Sorry for the noob question, but how do you know you need new control arms? How do old ones that need to be replaced affect the car? Just trying to pinpoint an issue I'm having with my car's steering.

it's the rubber bushing end that goes bad and starts leaking even. As they age, they crack/split/tear and don't provide adequate support for when the car is bouncing around and turning. It could also cause vibration in steering, front-end mis-alignment, etc. This is a great preventive maintenance project to do with a buddy over a 12-pack. That's what I did and by buddy did his just a few weeks after and we both felt a VAST improvement in ride quality and steering feel.

i finally got these parts replaced. The shop said they used an air chisel to break the knuckle loose. My right front bushing was torn pretty bad. The change in ride was not noticed but braking and turn in response are much better now.

You didn't notice a change in ride quality at 50-60 mph? They couldn't have been that bad then lol.
